West Indies pace bowler Oshane Thomas helped fire Frocester to their first West of England Premier League win of the season, with skipper Will Naish warning their rivals that there is plenty more to come from the club’s new signing.

The 26-year-old, who has played 20 one-day internationals and 20 T20 internationals, took 3-33 from his nine overs as Chippenham were shot out for 148 in reply to Frocester’s 208-5 from their 50 overs.

Newly promoted Frocester, whose opening Premier One game was cancelled because of the weather, head to Potterne tomorrow with Naish encouraged by Thomas’ opening league salvo.

“He bowled okay, pretty sharp,” said the 19-year-old, who is in the second year of a two-year rookie contract with Gloucestershire. “I do think he’s got a bit left in the tank, I’d say he bowled mid-80s, about 82mph.”

Thomas was clocked bowling at 97mph in a Caribbean Premier League game back in 2017 and he certainly made an early against Chippenham on Saturday, dismissing both openers in his new-ball spell to reduce the visitors to 15-2.

He returned to take a third wicket later in the innings – two bowled and one lbw – and Naish continued: “He’s started quite well, we’re pretty happy.”

Naish, who bats at the top of the order, shared the new ball with Thomas and they are likely to be in tandem tomorrow against a side who lost to Lansdown by three runs six days ago.

“I enjoyed it,” said Naish. “I think it will benefit me because teams may decide to try to attack me with Oshane at the other end, it could help me take a few more wickets.”

And while Thomas is already making an impression on the pitch, he’s also settling in off it.

“He’s quite quiet but he’s a very nice chap,” said Naish. “He offers a good bit of banter.”
