Designs from last autumn’s runway shows can now be found in our shops, as they work six months in advance. While designers like to display somewhat exaggerated styles on the runway, high street brands create copies that are more wearable for everyday fashion. Here are a few leading trends we can look forward to.
Sheer
Sheer fabrics and styles were shown by virtually all the top designers; the models wore very risqué lingerie type pieces, with plunging necklines and miniscule hemlines – they didn’t leave much to the imagination. High street shops are interpreting this with dress overlays, adding drama to barely-there slips, and lots of strategically placed cut-outs.
Flower power
Earlier this year, John Lewis declared they were moving on from florals, which did not go down well with their customers. This style was a huge hit last season, so floral items will be abundant on the high street. They’re great for a summer feel without having to bare your skin with sheer clothing!
Marks and Spencer now sell more than 200 items from Crew Clothing on their website, giving customers access to another stylish, high-quality fashion brand. Other brands include Ted Baker, Musto and Superdry.
Low-rise waists
The nineties favourite style is officially back. Low-rise waists can be found with everything from jeans to suits, shorts to skirts. Stella McCartney often pair a low-rise waist with a crop top for a full bare midriff impact. Of course, you can use a French tuck to get a similar effect without baring as much skin! Just partially tuck your top into the front waistband and leave the balance to hang; très chic.
Cargo pants
These pants are cooler than ever and a huge fashion trend. The style is laid-back, often in military-style khaki, with several leg pockets. Matched with a t-shirt or jacket, this is a trendy look.
Jackets
With so much skin on display, don’t despair – at the other end of the spectrum, we have oversized jackets and blazers, many with shoulder pads for a return to the 1980s – think Joan Collins in Dynasty. Balmain also had impressive mega shoulders on blazers, blouses, jackets and boleros on the runway. These styles will be toned down on the high street, but they will be everywhere in various shades.
Neon accessories
Perhaps you might prefer an accessory to give your outfit a new spring updated look. Many of our high street shops offer wonderful accessories, and neon is ‘in’ this spring. From footwear and handbags, to sunglasses and jewellery, the key is to add a vibrant accessory to a plain outfit and voila – instant spring fashion!Other Images
