Weddings take place all year round, but spring and summer weddings are very popular, as often they can be enjoyed outside – weather permitting!
High stress levels seem to be part of the run-up to the big day, which is unfortunate as often the bride and groom do not get to relax and enjoy the all-too-fleeting day the way they should.
If you’re thinking of having an engagement party, treat it as a ‘practice run’ so you can iron out any stresses before the big day. While you won’t be wearing a bridal gown and tuxedo, you can still have fun getting dressed up with your loved ones, and then recycle your outfits at another occasion – it will be a lovely reminder of your engagement party.
Buying the wedding dress
When it comes to the dress, it is crucial to be true to your personal style. Try on some of your favourite outfits at home and see which type of neckline, sleeve, shape, etc. you like. This will give you an idea of what you might choose for your wedding gown/outfit. For example, if a square neckline suits you, that will help you whittle down the overwhelming number of dresses at the Bridal shops.
Remember to take shoes similar in height to those you wish to wear on the day, and wear neutral underwear. If you want a backless gown, make sure you have the appropriate undergarment so there are no surprises as to the look.
Most importantly, give yourself enough time. You may not find your perfect dress straight away (and that’s absolutely fine), but remember to factor in time for alterations in case your dream dress doesn’t quite fit you perfectly when you first try it on.
Bridal trends
Nowadays, brides often have one or even two outfit changes during the day! Personally, I would find this adds to the stress levels, but every bride is different and has a vision of her perfect day. Some opt for a slinkier number to make for easier dancing, while others may like to pay tribute to their roots with cultural attire.
The groom
Grooms also have a lot of choice, although the Classic Tuxedo still remains a key style; black notch tuxedos are the most popular choice for 2023. The three-piece suit can satisfy the formal wedding dress code, while choosing a bold colour can make a personal statement. Wine tones seem popular, ranging from a soft rose or plum, to a dark brown-red.
The fit of today’s modern suit is particularly tailored with slim fit designs. Textured fabrics such as velvet, wool and tweed are proving popular, especially if choosing the cooler months. As with the bride, the most important thing is for the groom to feel comfortable and confident.
Statement accessories
Grooms often look to inject their personal flair to stand out from the crowd. Unique cufflinks, bold ties and bright pocket squares all make for an individual statement. Shoes too can make a bold look; patent blue tuxedo shoes have a following, as do bold shade loafers.
Remember to enjoy the process of planning your big day and, most importantly, the day itself! You’ll be making incredible memories which will last a lifetime.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
