Shimmer in satin

The holiday party season will soon be upon us and the shops are full of satin for day and evening, which of course is always a dressy option.

Slip style 90s vibe dresses cut on the bias are all over the high street. Satin isn’t the easiest fabric to wear – especially if it’s a thin satin, as it can tend to cling to areas we may prefer not to accentuate! Good undergarments can resolve this issue if you find that must-have dress.

A snug fit should not deter you from buying into this slinky trend, which can be found not just in slip style dresses, but in skirts, blouses, trousers and even handbags; a little something for every-one.

Debenhams sells a brand called Clay where the satin is a much thicker variety, so it’s easy to wear, and there are some nice pieces around the £45 mark so very affordable.

H&M has lovely rich, warm shades; look for a lovely skirt for £24.99, which you could pair with a polo jumper to give an edgy look.

Zara, of course, is always on trend and they do not disappoint in the satin department. Their beautiful cobalt blue dress for £29.99 is a great bargain, but I suspect will be selling out fast.

New Look has a lovely mustard shade of dress (right), sporting a pleated skirt, which is very flattering as it moves with you and does not cling.

If satin is not for you then you will be spoiled with a great selection of geometric prints, similar to styles from the 70s. All rather lady-like; designed with varying lengths of sleeves.

Many are in wrap style, which never seems to go out of fashion, as they are so easy to wear. Monsoon has an unusual scarf print wrap dress for £60. With a multitude of colour, this style would look very cute with ankle boots!

H&M has a lovely pleated skirt and sells a matching head band, which makes for a superb put-together look.

A brightly patterned scarf wrapped around the handle of your bag can create a rather chic Parisian look.

Dior Men

The Dior catwalk had all their male models wearing suits with trainers – needless to say there was a lot of divided opinion on this look. Daniel Craig recently wore skull embossed trainers with a suit when promoting his new film ‘Knives Out’, so this style is obviously catching on with celebrities.

One thing you can be sure of is this look is not going away any time soon. In fact, designer men’s trainers can cost a fortune, with Christian Louboutin selling a pair for over £1,200, which look like a work of art.

We can all agree on one thing; nothing beats comfortable feet. So perhaps this can be seen as a double benefit for the guys – comfort and being on trend? I’ll let you decide.
