In Gloucestershire, we’re blessed with a brilliant bounty of fantastic produce from our hardworking and dedicated farmers.
Why not get out there and meet those who are going to great lengths to ensure we can enjoy a taste of the good life?
You could come away with some great cooking tips, as well as helpful advice on how to grow your own.
Take your pick from our handy round up from across the county.
Cheltenham Farmers’ Market
Twice a month The Promenade offers a fantastic Friday feeling with an array of goodies to browse and buy from 9am to 2pm.
Cheery stallholders are in town on the second and last Friday of the month and are well established, having been trading for more than 12 years.
If you’re a fan of the freshest fruit and veg, traditional meats and charcuterie, you’re in luck. There are an array of sweet treats, too, with cakes, desserts, and occasionally gin and wine producers showcasing their wares.
There’s everything for a hearty Ploughman’s platter as well; think tangy cheeses, preserves and pickles and brilliant bread.
If you’re inspired to get growing at home, there are often plants to give you a head start.
Stroud Farmers’ Market
On Saturdays, Stroud comes alive with the hustle and bustle of this lively market that attracts shoppers from far and wide.
Centred around Cornhill Market Place and the surrounding streets, there are a huge array of vibrant goodies to explore, sample and buy.
Beyond the staples you’d expect, there are skincare and wellbeing products, knitted goods, artwork and crafts, ceramics and pottery, jewellery, glassware, soaps, leather bags and belts, wooden chopping boards, stained glass, soaps and candles.
The action kicks off at 9am and stallholders pack away at 2pm.
Gloucester Farmers’ Market
Gloucester has got the goods each Friday from 9am to 3pm at The Cross.
This lively market in the heart of the city has a cheerful atmosphere with some fantastic aromas floating across the city centre from Marinades Caribbean and Za’Za Falafel.
The mix of items on offer is varied with pies, Thai snacks, poultry, olives and bread alongside organic fruit and veg brought over the border from Hereford.
Charities and community groups also get the chance to shout about their work at the market. They can grab a stall for free, if there’s room, adding to the feel-good vibes.
Cirencester Farmers’ Market
With a focus on celebrating the best of the season, Market Place is packed with proud producers on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from 9am to 2.30pm.
This market has got the full range of goodies from locally brewed beer from Corinium Ales, pies, chocolate brownies, game and poultry as well as lots of fruit and veg.
Cirencester’s The Cotswold Curer brings a popular range of air dried salamis, chorizos and pancetta.
Fans of cheese will find a delicious range of artisan products from across the Cotswolds with the chance to sample varieties, get expert advice and bag special offers.
Tewkesbury Farmers’ Market
One of the most regular markets in the county, Spring Gardens Car Park is bursting with all sorts of stalls every Wednesday and Saturday.
Whether you’re after clothes and home wares or pet food and bird seed alongside your foodie items, there’s always plenty of choice and a lively atmosphere.
Down-to-earth and friendly, this general market has plenty of fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, free range eggs, fresh fish, cheeses, cakes and bakes, as well as herbs and plants.
Offering cracking value, some stalls are cash only, so be sure to bring your purse as well as your credit cards.
Stow Farmers’ Market
This market has grown in popularity as it’s established itself in the pretty Market Square.
Running regularly on the second and last Thursday of the month, other than the quieter months of December and January, stalls are open from 8.30am to 1pm.
Shoppers can find vegetables, cheeses, meats, goat's milk products, baked goods and plants on the colourful stands.
Stalls vary each month with ceramics, children’s clothing, fresh flowers, garden ornaments, sheepskins, leather belts, candles, cards, honey, jams, fudge and relishes all making an appearance from time-to-time.
