A John Daly is an alcoholic cocktail made with lemonade, iced tea and vodka, which is based on the non-alcoholic Arnold Palmer consisting of iced tea and lemonade. Both drinks are named after professional golfers – the John Daly name is a tongue-in-cheek comment referring to Daly’s problems with alcoholism.

According to the American golfer, Arnold Palmer regularly enjoyed drinking iced tea with lemonade at home. At the 1960 US Open at the Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, Colorado, he ordered this drink at the bar. A woman sitting nearby overheard him and ordered “that Palmer drink”, hence its name. The drink is also referred to as a ‘Half and Half’ in many parts of the US, especially the South.

Ingredients (John Daly):
50ml vodka
100ml lemonade
100ml iced tea
Ice
Slice of lemon to garnish

Method:
1. Fill a collins glass with ice.

2. Add vodka, then top up with equal parts iced tea and lemonade. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

Why not have a Mocktail?
To make an Arnold Palmer, simply mix equal parts of iced tea and lemonade, and pour over ice in a tall glass. Garnish with a slice of lemon.
