With everything that’s going on at the minute (and with April Fools Day coming up!) it’s good for us to watch something positive or engaging to get a smile back on our faces.
So here at The Local Answer, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite shows that will grip you from start to finish.
This Country – BBC iPlayer
As a Gloucestershire publication we had to include this.
Set in and around a rural Cotswold village, ‘This Country’ focuses on the lives of two cousins and the struggles of living in a rural village. Both cousins (brother and sister Daisy and Charlie Cooper) hail from Cirencester and can even be seen walking around their hometown from time to time.
Although the show mostly focuses on the downside and challenges that people in rural communities face, it will have you laughing from start to finish.
Sunderland ‘Til I Die – Netflix
A bit of a different series and definitely one for football fans out there! In case you didn’t know, Sunderland Athletic Football Club were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship in the 2016/17 season.
This documentary follows them through the turbulent 2017/18 season, focusing what it truly means to be a football fan. If you want to know the ins and outs of a football club then this is definitely one to binge watch for you – and with season 2 due out on Wednesday 1st April you won’t have long to wait for more.
Derry Girls – All 4/Netflix
Based in Northern Ireland this Channel 4 production follows the lives of four girls and a “wee English fella”, growing up in the 90s during The Troubles.
Not only is this show full of hilarious moments, it also gives a unique perspective on a period of British and Irish history that a lot of people aren’t fully aware of.
Stranger Things – Netflix
If you want something a bit creepier but still with funny moments, then ‘Stranger Things’ is the one for you.
The story focuses on Will Byers, a young boy who goes missing near a top-secret government laboratory. Set in 1983 Indiana, the show is full of nostalgia and stars cult actors like Winona Ryder as well as young new stars Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard.
With high ratings from IMDb and countless awards it’s become a favourite amongst audiences.
Curb Your Enthusiasm – Sky
With a tenth season released earlier this year, now is the perfect time to give this cult sitcom a go.
The show follows Larry David, co-creator of ‘Seinfeld’, and how his straight-talking, ‘say-what-you’re-thinking’ attitude regularly gets him into trouble.
Featuring cameos from stars like Ben Stiller and David Schwimmer (as themselves), Curb is a hilarious peek behind the curtain of the everyday life of Hollywood.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Netflix
Looking for something lighter? In that case maybe try putting on Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Revolving around Jake Peralta, an immature detective, the show focuses on the day-to-day lives of an NYPD department and features a host of quirky and endearing characters.
This show is something a bit lighter and is perfect to have in the background whilst you’re doing over things. With eight seasons available there’s definitely plenty to binge on.
The Young Offenders – BBC iPlayer
‘The Young Offenders’ is a coming-of-age comedy set in Cork, Ireland and follows two troublesome teens Connor and Jock.
Although the boys are not exactly model citizens, the show has a feel-good factor – if you want to have a smile on your face and be laughing for the rest of the day, then this is worth a try!
Parks and Recreation – Amazon Prime Video
This mockumentary-style sitcom follows the parks department of the small town of Pawnee, Indiana.
The show is best known for its loveable core cast – featuring stars like Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman and Chris Pratt as Leslie Knope, Ron Swanson and Andy Dwyer.
With 125 episodes to go through, ‘Parks and Recreation’ is a textbook bingeworthy comedy that is always worth a rewatch.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
