Rudyard Kipling is one of the most beloved storytellers of all time, with works including the iconic poem ‘If’ and the classic ‘Jungle Book’.
Now, five tales from Kipling’s classic book series, ‘Just So Stories’, have been adapted into a full-length show at the Barn Theatre.
The show began on 5th December and will run until Sunday 13th January, with an evening show on nearly every day, including Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The story follows Elephant’s Child, played by Lewis Cornay, on a journey to confront Pau Amma the crab, who has been playing with the ocean and as a result has flooded the land.
The original Just So Stories explain through Kipling’s fantastic storylines how certain animals came to have their abilities and characteristics, like how the leopard got his spots and why the elephant has a trunk.
Producer Jamie Chapman Dixon has worked on nearly 40 productions in his eight years in theatre and will soon be celebrating a year working on in-house production at the Barn Theatre. He explained a little bit more about the show and the messages behind it.
He said: “The show is about morality and the lessons we learn in our life, while also telling several beautiful intertwined stories that follow Elephant’s Child and his journey to make the world a better place.
“With the help of his new friends, he sets out on a quest to stop the menacing crab and helps the worlds animals find their uniqueness and own special personalities.”
With plenty of singing, dancing and fantasy for children, and comedy for adults, the show is perfect for a family night out over the festive period.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
