Actor and TV presenter Matthew Kelly will be making an exclusive appearance at the Barn Theatre on Sunday 17th November.
The former presenter of ITV’s ‘Star in Their Eyes’ will be discussing his career with BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter Dominic Cotter, who will be compering the evening.
Having been trained as a theatre actor, Matthew first came to public prominence as a television presenter of light entertainment shows such as ‘Game for a Laugh, ‘You Bet!’ and ‘Stars in Their Eyes’.
In the 2000s he returned to acting, appearing in several West End productions, while also acting in some television roles.
His theatre career included playing the original Stanley in ‘Funny Peculiar’ – a role he created at the Liverpool Everyman.
He has also been on stage with Sir Ian McKellen in ‘Waiting For Godot’, appeared in Tim Firth’s ‘Sign of the Times’, the musical ‘Lend Me A Tenor!’ and as Lennie in ‘Of Mice and Men’ at the Savoy Theatre for which his performance won him an Olivier Award for Best Actor.
He also appeared in the Barn Theatre’s production of ‘Just So’, lending his voice to Pau Amma the Crab.
He said: “I’m doing this for free because I’ll be talking about myself – my favourite topic!
“The money that we raise will go towards the Barn Theatre. I’ve supported it since its inception, and that’s why I’m coming to play!”
Matthew’s other television work includes ITV’s award winning thriller ‘Cold Blood’, ‘Benidorm’, and ‘Bleak House’.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
