From left to right: Barny Barnfield, Pablo Rodriguez, Simon Bond and Janek Davis make up Second SelfSince Second Self last spoke to The Local Answer in September, the Cheltenham-based band have been very busy.
“We ran a successful pledge campaign to get CD copies created of our debut EP, titled 'EP1',” said Janek Davis.
“We were overwhelmed by the support from friends, family and supporters of the band, with copies going as far as Europe and the USA.
“We have also been playing plenty of gigs and branching out further, playing Bristol and London venues for the first time.”
The band, made up of guiatrist Janek, lead singer Simon Bond, bassist Barny Barnfield and drummer Pablo Rodriguez, have recently released their first ever music video, for their song ‘Stepping Stones’
Janek continued: “This was our first music video and was directed, filmed and edited by Ross Goatman of Satyr Media.
“We had worked with Ross several times before filming and we were confident that he could help us create something visually interesting for this project. It was shot over one day, and we had a great time.
“There was a bit of a delay between filming and release, but we are massively happy with the results, so it was well worth the wait in our book. We feel that It's a great visual piece and it complements the track fantastically.”
The video was released on the group’s Facebook and YouTube pages, and Janek and his bandmates are delighted with the positive response they’ve received.
“It amazing when people seem to genuinely support the art you create, and we are really thankful for everyone’s response,” he said.
“We hope this video will go some way to raising the band’s profile a little more.”
In terms of the future, Second Self are looking forward to playing more gigs in Cheltenham and further afield, with new music also on the cards.
“Two local shows that we are excited for are a headline gig at the 2 Pigs on Friday 31st May with two new local bands, ‘Death Is A Girl’ and ‘Down Not Out’, as well as the Cheltenham Midsummer Fiesta on Saturday 6th July, which should be a really fun show.
“As well as gigging, we are demoing tracks with a view to record another EP in the near future and we continue to write new music.
“We would love it if people would take the time to check out our music or come out and see us live. We give our all on stage and it's an amazing feeling to see people reacting and having a good time to songs that we have created.
“We all feel it's important to support the local bands and venues – too many venues are closing, and they are vital to keeping the live music scene alive.
“There are some amazing local bands at the moment, and we are hyped to amongst them.”
