The operatic trio 3xDiva will this month be treating an audience at The Hillside Brewery in Longhope to ‘A Night At The Opera’.
The trio is made up by professional sopranos Phillippa Lay and Tóra Wilson and mezzo-soprano Anne Braley.
“I’ve been singing since I can remember, I probably started seriously when I was 16,” said Tóra.
“My dad was also a singer and my parents used to play a variety of music – I grew up listening to all genres.
“I wanted to go into musical theatre and my parents supported me through music college, and it was at the Birmingham Conservatoire where Phillippa and I met.”
Tóra, who originally hails from Yorkshire, and Phillippa, who lives in Bussage, performed together as a ‘popera’ duo since leaving college, and around a year ago met Anne, who is also a Gloucestershire local.
It was in autumn of last year that the three singers came together to form 3xDiva, and Tóra says that performing as a trio has been a great experience.
“We all get on really well,” she continued, “we always joke that we should be arguing like divas but never do.
“Phillippa and I used to do a lighter take on opera as well as the serious side, and Anne is a wonderful mezzo who adds another angle.”
And as an independent group, the trio have the freedom to perform their favourite repertoire at their shows.
Tóra said: “We do a whole variety of songs from shows like Marriage of Figaro and Carmen, as well as some less well-known stuff.
“It’s our product and we try to cater to each show, doing something different every time and putting our own twist on things.
The show at Hillside Brewery will feature an eclectic mix of opera aria, duet and trio favourites, but also ‘classical crossover’ songs from Titanic, The Greatest Showman and other well-known popular tunes.
The night will feature prosecco, canapes and a two-course meal for guests, with 3xDiva singing throughout.
“It’s a gorgeous space for performing,” added Tóra.
“It’s really open so hopefully we’ll be able to do what Anne and I call ‘walkies’, when we walk around and sing so everyone in the audience is involved!”
