For most people, a festival is something to be experienced and enjoyed for a weekend or few days.
But one Gloucester resident has taken her love of music to the next level, and organised her very own festival, aptly called ‘For the Love of Music Festival’.
“I’ve always had an inkling in the back of my mind that I want to do something like this,” said Bonnie Eastmond, the woman behind it all.
“It just seemed like the perfect time in my life to get it going.”
Bonnie, who was born in Cheltenham and is a former Café Rene employee – “it’s one of my favourite places,” she says – has spent years experiencing the music scene in Gloucester and Bristol.
Her passion for music is the driving force behind the festival, with many of the crew helping to organise and bands performing being friends she has made over the years.
“I’m just the girl who’s dream it is to hold a festival,” she continued. “I’ve got a really amazing, helpful team around me doing the technical bits.
“In August of last year my friend Ralph, who’s bar manager of All Blues Rugby Club, offered their site as a venue. The council have been really kind and helpful too.”
The festival’s line up features artists of all different genres from all over the country.
“We’ve got a stage for bands, an acoustic open mic stage, and an electronic and dance stage,” said Bonnie.
“My music taste is really eclectic and we had around 500 applicants to perform, so getting to listen to all these different bands was an amazing feeling for me.”
The festival is not-for-profit, with funds raised going to a range of causes including homeless charities in Bristol and Gloucester and Refugee Community Kitchen.
“We’ve tried to keep the tickets as cheap as possible so it’s accessible and people can come along, have a lovely time and help people along the way,” added Bonnie.
For the Love of Music Festival takes place from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st July at All Blues Rugby Ground in Gloucester.
For Bonnie, the festival is set to be the culmination of months of hard work and planning, and a lifelong dream.
She added: “I’m 50% excited and 50% ‘oh my God, it’s really soon’.
“It’s the first thing I think about when I wake up, last thing before I go to sleep and I dream about it too!
“But I’m hoping this will just be the start of something big and I can carry this on for years.”
