Cheltenham singer Paul Symington looking forward to 2019

Paul Symington has pretty much done it all when it comes to music.
After graduating with a National Diploma in Musical Theatre from The Arts Educational Schools in London, Paul appeared on the West End stage, in musicals like Miss Saigon, Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Since then he’s gone on to front rock, blues and soul bands, acapella groups and has recently recorded a solo EP.
“For me there’s no comparison,” said Paul, who lives in Cheltenham, “being in musicals and fronting a band is like two completely different sides to me.
“I moved back to Cheltenham from London to bring my daughter up, and now she’s off to university so I’ve got time to concentrate on my music!”
It has always been an ambition of Paul’s to write his own original music, and he achieved that ambition when he released his debut EP ‘Break the Lock’ in December.
He continued: “I’ve been in a few rock cover bands but I’ve always wanted to write my own record.
“I released my EP which had four of my original songs on it, that my good friend Nick Pasztor helped to write and produce.”
A trained actor, Paul is part of the Everyman Theatre actor’s lab, and regularly takes part in workshops. He has also recently sung on a charity single that was written and produced by Nick Pasztor for ‘Jenson’s Journey’, a charity that was set up to raise money and awareness for the battle against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
After a busy 2018, Paul is looking forward to an even busier new year.
He said: “This year the plan is to write a 10-song album, get a band together and then go on tour.
“We used to do pubs, weddings, things like that which I love doing and the thought of playing my own music at these gigs is really exciting.”
