Although they have only been together for a couple of years, Toby Catt, Guy Daws, Nathan Fletcher and Joe Burgess – better known as TREE//HAUS – have already built a strong fanbase.
“Nathan, Guy and I have been together for around a year and a half and it's been a real journey. It was through a local pub where the university held a welcome gig catered to all three years of our course,” said lead vocalist Toby.
“Guy and I had the idea of the band for a while but needed a bassist for a fairly long time. After a long night with, let's just say, enough alcohol, it was clear that Nathan was the perfect fit. We then met Joe through Nathan about 6 months ago and haven't looked back since.”
TREE//HAUS say their sound is best described as “a blend of funk, jazz and pop”, with guitarist Guy, bassist Nathan and drummer Joe backing up Toby’s lyrics.
“As a group our influences spread far and wide, which enables us to grow and develop our own sound,” said Guy.
“I feel groove is paramount to us harnessing the ability to make people dance. Bands such as Vulfpeck and Island Club are hugely influential as well as artists such as Tom Misch, Jordan Rakei and Bruno Major.”
Their latest single, ‘My Time’, featuring Bristol-based band Watercolours, has been watched almost 15,000 times on Facebook, where the group has developed a strong fanbase – who they call ‘Haus//mates’.
Joe said: “We are so happy with how 'My Time' has gone down on social media, far better than we imagined.
“To get it to where it is we have just been posting regularly about gigs coming up, plans for new songs, photo shoots and anything else that comes to mind! We are lucky to have fans who love to connect through social media and keep up to date with what is going on in the TREE//HAUS world.”
‘My Time’, which was the band’s third single, was also recently played on BBC Introducing in the West.
The group have had a busy summer so far, performing at venues around Cheltenham including the Jazz Festival and Wychwood.
With more music on the horizon, as well as more shows and gigs, the future looks bright for TREE//HAUS.
Nathan added: “We want to be focusing on gigging and getting ourselves out there before committing to an EP or album. These things take time.”
“We'd love to do one and it’s always been on the cards – it's finding the time and people to help us achieve this. We'd want it to be the best it possibly could be!”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
