The Gloucester Cajun and Zydeco Festival is one of the city’s most popular events.

Held every January at the Gloucester Guidlhall, the weekend is a celebration of the Cajun and Zydeco music that originated from the Creole working class people of Louisiana.

2020 marks the festival’s 27th year – making it Europe’s longest running festival of its kind.

Sussex-based Cajun and Zydeco band Rough Chowder will be making their fifth appearance at the festival and vocalist Cheryl Whiting said: “The music is contagious and just makes you want to dance.

“You can jump around, jive, shout and holler, it’s feel-good music that makes you, well, feel good!

“Oh, and if you’ve never experienced real Cajun food either, you’re in for a treat. Hint, it isn’t Cajun chicken!”

This year the Cajun and Zydeco Festival will run from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th January and will feature bands from all over the country and beyond.

There will also be regular DJ slots, Zydeco dance workshops and a Q&A with Chris Hall and Rees Wesson on the early years of the UK Cajun and Zydeco scene.
