Saxophonist and singer Kim Cypher has had a busy year since she last spoke to The Local Answer.
That was in January last year, ahead of the release of her second album ‘Love Kim x’, which she has been touring all over the country.
“It’s been manic, we’ve been playing gigs non-stop,” said Kim. “We played 27 gigs in December alone!
“The album has had some great reviews and radio plays, and I’m continuing the tour into this year.”
In the coming weeks Kim is set to play in Tetbury, Swindon and Tamworth amongst other places.
However one upcoming show is set to have extra importance to Kim, as she explains.
“I’ve played the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho a few times,” she said. “But when they asked me to play on 2nd March I realised it would be on the 20th anniversary of losing my mum.
“I almost turned them down, but I decided instead to dedicate it to her and make it a celebration of music and life.”
The night will be in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity and will also feature legendary British saxophonist and vocalist Ray Gelato.
Kim continued: “I’ve followed Ray for years, he’s played all around the world.
“He’s a phenomenal entertainer, when I called him to ask I half expected him to say no, but he didn’t!”
The gig will also feature the first ever performance of Kim’s brand new song, ‘All For You’.
Kim says the song is a tribute to her mum, and she hopes it will be appreciated by anyone who has ever lost a loved one.
“It’s got a swing, big band feel to it, it’s quite fun,” she said.
“We’re also releasing a video with the song. It’s a bit unusual, because it’s all illustrations by a local artist Martyna Sabadasz.
“She’s brought the song to life with her beautiful paintings. It reflects how I live my life without my mum, but also with my mum very much by my side inspiring all I do.”
Kim’s ‘For Mum’ gig will be at Pizza Express Jazz Club on Monday 2nd March.
A coach from Cheltenham to the show has been organised, anyone interested in booking a seat should email redmondpat@hotmail.co.uk
