Since The Local Answer last spoke to Wren Snaith, the 14-year-old singer has had a busy few months.
After releasing her debut single ‘In The Case of a Heartbreak’ – a song she wrote herself – last summer, the Balcarras pupil has been busy auditioning for a place on the ITV talent show ‘The Voice Kids’.
“Last summer I had an email from my school,” said Wren.
“The producers of the show had been in touch, and I went up to Manchester to sing in front of them.”
After passing the initial auditions – which saw around 10,000 singers apply – Wren was able to enjoy a break over Christmas before returning to the studios for the blind auditions.
For anyone not familiar with the format of The Voice, the blind auditions involve contestants singing in front of a live studio audience and the four popstar judges – will.i.am, Jessie J, Pixie Lott and Danny Jones – who are facing away from the performer.
If the judges are suitably impressed by the contestants singing ability, they press a button to turn their chair around, putting them through to the next round.
“It was absolutely terrifying,” added Wren. “But a really cool experience. It’s the biggest crowd I’ve ever performed in front of.”
Of course it wasn’t just the studio audience and the four music stars Wren performed in front of – there will have been millions more at home watching.
And anyone who saw Wren’s performance on Saturday will know that she earned herself a turn from McFly frontman Danny Jones.
“Words can’t describe it,” said Wren on the moment she saw his chair turn. “He’s a really cool person, it was a privilege to work with him.
“Also meeting people like Jessie J and will.i.am was amazing. They’re really down to earth and different to how you see them on camera, they gave me a lot of advice and confidence.”
Now she’s made it through the blind auditions, Wren will next be seen having the chance to work with Jones and some of the country’s finest musicians as she prepares for the ‘battles’ round.
“I’m excited that I’ll get to work with a band that’s worked with people like Ed Sheeran,” she continued.
“It was really helpful to see behind the scenes of music and TV and learn about the industry.”
Away from the competition, Wren is wasting no time pursuing her career in music as she prepares to release her very first EP, entitled ‘Smile Please’.
The songs featured on the EP are called ‘Blue Glass’ – which is released on streaming platforms today – ‘11 or 4’, and ‘Final Goodbye’, a tribute to Wren’s Grandad who passed away in February.
“I’ve written and produced all three songs,” added Wren, “I’m really excited to release more music.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
