Tadstock Festival: the perfect family weekend

If you’re looking for three days of top quality music and activities to keep the whole family entertained, then the Tadstock Festival is the place to be.
The annual festival takes place during the bank holiday weekend at the end of this month at Kencot Hill Farm, just a 5-minute drive from Lechlade. First held in 2005, the festival has grown year-on-year and is now established as one of the best value festivals held in Gloucestershire.
The mastermind behind the success of the festival is Tad Czapski, who owns the farm where the festival is held. Tad is anticipating another busy three days of top quality music when the festival gets underway on Friday 24th August. He said: “Everyone associated with the festival is looking forward to another fantastic weekend of live music and events. It’s extremely pleasing to receive bookings from people who have been supporting the event for a long time.
“The festival was originally devised as an opportunity to bring together the musicians from my family and friendship group. The festival grew organically for eight years and then we decided to open the doors and go public.
“The whole ethos of the festival is focused around giving young musicians a platform to showcase their talents. Some years back we teamed up with the Cheltenham charity CCP, a charity that aims to transform the lives of children, young people, families and vulnerable adults. They have a music initiative that gives children the opportunity to use music studios and develop their skills. The Tadstock Festival is part of their musical journey now.
“We have a production team who take submissions from musicians and decide on the best acts who are then booked to appear at the festival. We also do a few ‘battle of the bands’ competitions across towns and cities in the south-west for artists to get the opportunity to perform at the Tadstock Festival. It’s very satisfying to give opportunities to young musicians who are living in the south-west.”
Once the festival entry fee has been paid, visitors to the festival are free to enjoy several workshops and activities completely free of charge. Tad continued: “We wanted to bring a real sense of well-being to the festival which is why we have yoga workshops for adults to enjoy. For children we organise treasure hunts and art classes, there’s activities running throughout the three days to keep everyone entertained. Once you’ve paid the entry fee, all the events and workshops are completely free of charge.
“We don’t sell day tickets, we encourage families to book for the whole weekend. We’re a festival that’s very much focused on creating a friendly atmosphere that families can enjoy. It’s very satisfying seeing the numbers of people who return year after year. Some children have never known a summer without the Tadstock Festival which is really lovely to hear. It’s great to see children enjoying themselves and keeping busy rather than staring into their smartphones.
“Looking ahead it would be great to think the festival can continue on an upward curve. Attendances have continued to rise every year, so fingers crossed that continues.”
