Violinist Alice Earll is to perform a concert playing music by Johann Sebastian Bach at the Old Baptist Chapel in Tewkesbury on May 20.
Alice, who has been playing the violin since the age of four, says she’s looking forward to the concert in Tewkesbury. She said: “I’ll be playing two pieces by Bach but also some older work by less well-known composers.
“I’ve been playing the violin since I was four years old at the Gloucestershire academy of music. I played through primary and secondary school then it came to making a decision on what I wanted to do after my A levels. I decided that music college was the best place to be.”
Alice studied under Pavlo Beznosiuk at the Royal Academy of Music, graduating in 2016 with a first-class degree and the Bickerdike Allen Prize for achievement. She has since gone on to perform with the Academy of Ancient Music at the BBC Proms and as part of the Lincoln Centre’s Mostly Mozart Festival. She has also played at Shakespeare’s Globe as part of ‘Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.’ “Playing is what I love best. I’m quite lucky, I don’t tend to get nervous, I just enjoy being on stage,” added Alice.
Having played at some of the most prestigious musical venues across Europe, Alice says two venues here in the UK would be her favourite places to play. “I’ve been fortunate enough to play in some amazing buildings, both in the UK and in Europe. The one concert that stands out was at Wigmore Hall in London, a truly awe-inspiring building. Also, the first time I came back to play Cheltenham Town Hall with a professional orchestra was an amazing experience. The last time I played there I played The Snowman with Gloucestershire Youth orchestra!”
After her Tewkesbury performance Alice will be on her travels, with a number of concerts across Europe pencilled in her busy summer schedule. “Travelling is part of the job, I enjoy it. Going to play in great European cities is always exciting. I’ve got some concerts over in Germany which I’m really looking forward to. I’m also playing in Moscow and St Petersburg, again covering Bach’s work.”
