What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the writing, at least, when it’s going well. Those days when I lose all track of time and the words flow, the characters and scenes coming alive.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love walking my dogs in the countryside. Also catching up with friends over a coffee or a glass of wine. And of course I often have my head in a good book!

Where’s your favourite place to visit in Gloucestershire?

My favourite place is probably Cheltenham town centre, particularly when the festivals are on and the town has an extra buzz about it. I love the tree-lined parks and roads, the cafes and restaurants, the shops and bars.

What’s your favourite restaurant in Gloucestershire?

My favourite restaurant is The Daffodil. I love the Art Deco building, plus the food is wonderful. It’s been our go-to restaurant for celebrations for years.

What’s the one thing you miss about Gloucestershire when you’re away?

I miss the honey-coloured stone and the beautiful Cotswold hills, both of which you’ll find in my writing.

What is your favourite film?

My favourite film is ‘Lost in Translation’. I love its honesty and simplicity. In complete contrast I also adore ‘In Bruges’, violent and quirky and sad and brilliant.

What’s your favourite book?

‘The Great Gatsby’, I read it most years and always find something new to love.

Do you have any pets?

I have a golden retriever and I look after my daughter’s cavapoo so I have lots of gorgeous dogs in my life; a must for every writer. They never interrupt but are always there when you need them – perfect companions!

Do you ever attend any shows at theatres here in Gloucestershire?

Yes, I love the local theatre. The last thing I saw at The Everyman was a stand-up comedy show, but I’ve seen many plays there too. My favourite was probably ‘The Dresser’, with Reece Shearsmith and Ken Stott – amazing performances.

What achievement are you most proud of?

Professionally it has to be writing books that are now published. It took me a while, but it was all worth it.

If you could give one bit of advice to authors wanting to get their books published what would it be?

To take your time and make sure your book is the best it can be. That means reading lots of books published in and out of your chosen genre and editing and polishing your manuscript many times before you send it to agents or publishers. You only get one chance to create that first impression so treat it like applying for your dream job.

What does the future hold? Can we expect more books to be released in the months and years ahead?

I have a third book out next summer, which will be titled The Hidden Wife. It’s about the wife of a successful author who goes missing on the night of their tenth anniversary.
