Avengers: Infinity War

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the new Avengers film. Since its premiere it has topped the UK box office, with glowing reviews from film reviewers and cinema goers.
I’m not the biggest fan of superhero films. Other than the recent Batman films and the first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film I find the genre’s obsession with CGI a real annoying feature. CGI is a major feature in this film, so I was unsure if I’d come away from the cinema thinking ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ was just another computer-generated waste of time. How pleasing to discover it was not.
Featuring more superheroes than you can fit on a poster – Spider Man, Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, the Incredible Hulk and stars from Guardians of the Galaxy – all feature in this CGI epic. Over the course of its nearly three-hour running time the film races along and builds towards a monumental battle between good and evil.
The villain of the film is Josh Brolin’s Thanos, a kind of giant purple brute who is intent on acquiring the full set of infinity stones, with which he’d have the power to destroy the universe. The first time we see him in action he delivers a brutal beatdown to one of the mightiest Avengers, from the outset you realise he’s not to be messed with. In order to stop his murderous rampage, the team of superheroes must put aside their differences and unite to try and save themselves and the universe.
Everything about this film is big, from the size of the cast to the scope of what’s at stake should our team of superheroes fail. The superheroes are the stars of the film. The characters are easy to love and share plenty of humorous moments along the way. That isn’t to say there aren’t darker moments in the film, there’s a murderous undercurrent that runs throughout and there are several extremely violent scenes of torture and fighting.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ will be followed next April by another Avengers instalment. If it’s half as good as this film Marvel will have done very well.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
