Clearwell Caves’ annual Halloween party is one of the main events to be hosted at the popular attraction in October.
Now in its 50th year, the Halloween party is set to take place on Saturday 27th October. With an evening of live music and dancing, hosted underground in the caverns, it promises to be a one of the best Halloween events held in Gloucestershire this year.
“Our Halloween Party is a major event in the calendar,” said Jonathan Wright, Director at Clearwell Caves. “This year’s event is a real milestone, we’re expecting another sell-out so anyone wanting to attend is encouraged to book as soon as possible. There can be few more atmospheric settings for a Halloween party than in our labyrinth of caves and passages, it’s always a fantastic evening,” he added.
The caves, just a 5-minute car journey from the town of Coleford, will also be welcoming a Swedish theatre group this month who will be performing a unique set of music in the caves. Jonathan added: “We’re extremely excited to be welcoming ‘Inner Ear’, who are a top-class theatre group.
“This will be a promenade event with contemporary dance and music through the first caverns leading to the main performance in ‘the Sound Chamber’ 100ft underground. This is just one of the many events we host where we utilise the caves, we’re very keen to emphasise there’s more to Clearwell than just the caves.”
The Clearwell Caves are home to the largest colony of lesser horseshoe bats in the UK. Sound and interactive installations have recently been positioned through the caverns, which Jonathan says offers visitors a glimpse into the role sound plays in the underground caves, both for animals and humans. He added: “The installations highlight how both humans and bats use sound. Hopefully they will help visitors appreciate these misunderstood and incredibly interesting wild animals.”
Many famous TV shows and films have been filmed at the caves, with fans of a certain sci-fi programme regular visitors to the Forest of Dean. Jonathan continued: “We do get a lot of Dr Who fans who are interested in the filming that has taken place here in the caves. Over the years we’ve welcomed some amazingly popular TV shows and films who have filmed in the caves.
“When people visit us they often have no idea what’s beneath their feet. It’s a really unusual world, there’s close to 200 miles of walkways that link up the caves. It’s an incredible setting, people are often surprised at the sheer size of the caves.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
