Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club (SVTEC), organisers of the annual Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza, have donated over £25,000 to 38 national and regional charities and preservation projects.
The show organisers hosted a special evening at Stonehouse Court Hotel on Monday 28th January and invited representatives from 38 charities to attend a presentation.
Martyn Slater, Chairman of SVTEC said: “Last year nearly 20,000 visitors flocked through the gates of the Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza during the hottest weekend of the year.
“It was one of the best attended shows in the events 44-year history which meant that we are able to invest in the sustainability of our future shows but can also support many worthwhile charities”.
The show, which takes place at South Cerney Airfield, is the biggest event of its kind ran entirely by volunteers.
“Without them, the show simply couldn’t run,” Martyn continued.
“I am immensely proud of our team of 65 volunteers. As a way to reward them for all their hard work and commitment to the event, each section leader nominates a charity to be a beneficiary from the profits raised.”
The largest donations went to charities including Cobalt Appeal Fund, Diabetes UK, The Graham Fulford Charitable Trust, Cotswold Canals Trust, Gloucestershire Scouts, and the newly formed Wotton & Dursley branch of the British Heart Foundation.
Martyn continued: “There is so much goodwill in the county.
“To me it’s the highlight of the year and makes all the stresses and strains of running the show all worthwhile and inspires us all to carry on. Each recipient was given the opportunity to say a few words about their respective causes.
“It is our hope that we are in a position to do something similar for many years to come.”
This year will be the 45th annual Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza at the South Cerney Airfield in Cirencester.
“We have managed to keep the admission price the same for 10 years, to make it the best value for money family day out in Gloucestershire, with something for all to enjoy,” continued Martyn.
“It’s one of the largest events of its kind, run by volunteers and whilst the show has evolved over the years, our mission remains the same - to inform, educate, celebrate and preserve our unique transport heritage.
“This year we have a record number of vehicle entries confirmed, so 2019 is set to be our biggest show yet in our 45-year history.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
