Magical Mystery Night kicks off Christmas in Tetbury

The Christmas Light switch on in Tetbury is an annual event that the whole town looks forward to.
This year will be a little different however, as the Tetbury Town Council will be organising the event for the first time in a long time.
Georgina Osman, who is part of the team tasked with organising the evening, explains the theme of the night.
She said: “This year for the first time ever Tetbury Town Council is hosting ‘Tetbury's Magical Mystery Night’ Christmas Light Switch on Event.
“Historically this has been organised by a community group ‘Christmas in Tetbury’ who unfortunately are no longer able to do it, so they’ve handed over the baton to us!”
The Switch On event is often more about bringing the community together than anything else, and Georgina says the support from local groups is crucial to the event.
She continued: “Many groups come together to light up the town. Tetbury Feoffees who own the Market House adorn it with beautiful light and collect and decorate two fabulous trees that are donated by the Lowsley-Williams Family who own Chavenage House.
“With the support of the town centre shops, Tetbury in Bloom have arranged for lit Christmas trees to be placed above shop premises lining the town centre streets.”
The night is set to officially start the festive season in Tetbury, and like all good Christmas Light switch ons, the event will feature a famous face to kick off proceedings.
Georgina said: “It’s happening on Friday 7th December and there will be a community parade at 6pm travelling from the Police Museum on Long Street up to the Market House where the lights will be switched on.
“We have Coronation Street star Tristan Gemmill who plays Robert Preston helping us turn on the lights!
“After the switch-on the community and visitors will be able to enjoy late night shopping around the town, Christmas market and charity stalls in Church Street, Santa’s Grotto, food, drink, festive music and much more.
“A lot of hard work goes into organising the switch on event, so we hope everyone enjoys this year’s slightly different format!”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
