Visitors to the village of Deerhurst will get the opportunity to see a collection of vibrant floral displays at the 2018 Deerhurst Flower Festival which gets underway this Saturday.
The Priory Church of St Mary will be transformed this bank holiday weekend with a stunning collection of flowers and plants. “The Deerhurst Flower Festival is a great day out, with lots to get up to for the whole family,” said festival organiser Cate Morris. “As well as the beautiful collection of floral displays there will be an art exhibition and stalls selling crafts, freshly made cakes and various other food and drink stalls,” she added.
The theme for this year’s festival is ‘A Moment in Time’, with displays capturing key moments from years gone by. Cate continued: “Our talented flower arrangers, most of whom live locally, will be showcasing their skills with some fantastically colourful displays that depict major events as well as a very special Beatrix Potter display in the main part of the church.
“Visitors will be treated to a host of magnificent floral displays depicting momentous events. These include the Big Bang, the Eruption of Vesuvius and Armistice Day, as well as important moments in everyone’s lives, such as a christening, a child’s first day at school, and a couple saying: “I Do”.
“There will be some lovely music being played by schoolchildren from Tewkesbury School. We’ve got a pianist, a saxophonist and a guitar player who will be playing. The church lawn is open for people to sit and enjoy themselves, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the music while eating lunch.
“We also have a dedicated art exhibition in Odda’s Chapel featuring work by many talented Gloucestershire artists. There will be paintings, ceramics and sculptures for everyone to enjoy.”
“I’ve been involved in the festival for 25 years. The event has evolved over the years and really gone from strength to strength. Money raised from the event goes towards the Deerhurst and Apperley Church Fund.”The Festival runs from 10am till 5.30pm on Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th August. Entrance to the festival costs £7 for adults with under 16s able to gain entry free of charge.
