The Tewkesbury theatre will host Penny’s beautiful paintings, with the exhibition opening on Monday 3rd September, running through until Wednesday 26th September. The Birdlip-based artist has enjoyed a long and illustrious career, painting magical countryside scenes and says her exhibition will show off the paintings which she’s become so well-known for. “I’m really looking forward to exhibiting my work at the Roses Theatre”, Penny said. “My paintings are a real mixture of colours inspired by the wonderful countryside,” she added.
Penny’s passion for art began at a very young age and has continued into adulthood. She has been painting professionally for over two decades from her studio in Birdlip. She continued: “After spending quite a few years working in retailing in London family life took me to the lovely Cotswolds. My spare room is where I do a lot of my paintings. I take a lot of inspiration from the countryside around where I live, it’s a beautiful part of Gloucestershire.
“I love painting imaginary country scenes with a story to tell. My giclee prints are produced using archival premium quality canon lucia pigmented ink. I enjoy trying different styles, my overriding interest is in colour and texture. Growing up I didn’t really try and learn from any artist, I think it’s extremely important that anyone wanting to pursue a career in art has their own style and develops their skills by learning what works and what doesn’t.”
As well as selling her work on her website Penny’s paintings can be purchased from Cheltenham’s Regent Arcade. She added: “A selection of my paintings can be found in the Cotswold Galleria outlet in the centre of Cheltenham. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to sell many pieces of my work all over the world. There’s no better feeling for an artist than to sell your work. Being an artist is a challenging career but an extremely rewarding one at the same time. I love what I do, I feel very happy to be in a career doing something that brings me a lot of pleasure.”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
