Matt Forde is one of the country’s leading political satirists, regularly appearing on shows like ‘Have I Got News For You’ and ‘Mock The Week’, alongside ‘Unspun’ – his very own political comedy show on DAVE.
He also has a monthly residency at The Other Palace in London, where he performs stand up based on recent news stories before interviewing some of the biggest names in politics – which in the past have included people like Tony Blair, Nigel Farage and Jacob Rees-Mogg – for his popular podcast ‘The Political Party’.
A lifelong Nottingham Forest fan, Matt finds himself at the forefront of comedy during what is an uncertain time in the world of politics.
“Nowadays it’s just a never-ending cycle of mad things going on,” he explained. “It gives me plenty to talk about.”
His latest tour – ‘Brexit Through The Gift Shop’ – will of course heavily feature what is arguably one of the most significant political stories of a generation, and he promises to take no prisoners.
Matt continued: “It’s basically a topical mockery of Brexit and Trump, mostly.
“I know people in the audience will have all voted differently – leave or remain, Tory or Labour and so on. So I take the mick out of everyone – I think politicians at the moment are all rubbish anyway.
“I’m constantly updating and changing the show to keep it relevant and up to date, so it’ll change from day to day.”
The show received critical acclaim when Matt performed it at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer.
Matt, who previously worked in politics – “now 10 years clean!” as he describes it – has always been involved in comedy even before making it his full-time profession.
He thinks that now more than ever comedy acts as a crucial outlet.
He said: “Politics has become so poisonous and divisive over the last few years.
“With Brexit and Trump and everything that’s going on, most people just want a break and to laugh sometimes, regardless of your political views.”
‘Brexit Through The Gift Shop’ is at Gloucester Guildhall on Saturday 2nd February.
