A Gloucester woman will be walking 100km across the hills of the Cotswolds in memory of her father, while helping to raise funds for the hospice which helped care for him.
Jessica Carter, 28 from Hempsted, decided to take on the 100km walk in 24 hours to help raise funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.
She will be joined by her husband Paul and brother-in-law Mark, making it a real family fundraising affair.
Jessica said: “My dad, Arthur was cared for at the beautiful Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice where sadly he lost his battle against cancer in August 2016.
“Initially, the thought of visiting him there filled me with dread, but that dread quickly turned to joy.
“The hospice itself was beautiful, as were the staff. I can happily say that his last days were spent laughing in the sunshine in the beautiful gardens. The staff kept his dignity the entire time and we will forever be grateful for that.
“The care, hard work and kindness given to my family helped us through the most devastating time. And the hospice does this for family’s day in day out. I hope to raise as much as I can to try and say thank you and help others in the same heart-breaking situation as us.”
The fundraising trio will walk day and night in one hit, taking in 100km of the glorious Cotswold Way. They will start in Bath on 8th July, finishing up 24 hours later in Cheltenham.
Jessica added: “This challenge will be no easy feat and anyone that knows me will know that I will find this extremely hard!
“An entire 24 hours of walking sounds daunting but thinking of all those people who are fighting daily, every second, minute, hour, will get us through to the end.”
