Abbeymead Rovers crowned over-60s South West champions

Abbeymead Rovers are the Walking Football Association’s champions for over-60s in the South West.
They were unbeaten in five matches in a tournament at Weston-super-Mare and took the title on goal difference from Dorchester Town.
They opened the competition with a 1-0 win over Taunton, courtesy of a Nigel Hill goal and followed up by drawing 1-1 with Dorchester.
That game was to prove crucial as Hill was on target again after Abbeymead had fallen behind.
Abbeymead, who have enjoyed a very successful 2018/19 GFA season, drew their third game 0-0 with Exeter before Ade Walsh, who has been selected for the South West’s over-60 walking football squad, found his shooting boots in the final two games.
They resulted in 3-0 wins over Keynsham Town and Locking and their 11 points and plus seven goal difference was just enough to earn them the title.
A delighted Abbeymead captain Chris Fletcher said: “I am so proud of every player in the team – getting crowned as Walking Football Association South West champions is such a great honour.”
