Tewkesbury Triathlon Club looking forward to big day
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Wednesday, 13th September 2023, 15:20
The ever-popular sprint triathlon, hosted by Tewkesbury Triathlon Club, takes place a week on SundayTewkesbury Triathlon Club are counting down the hours to the biggest day in the club’s year.
Their sprint triathlon takes place on Sunday 24th September, with the swimming at Croft Farm Water Park in Bredon’s Hardwick kicking off proceedings.
“It’s a 750 metres open water swim,” said Tewkesbury Triathlon Club chairman David Taylor. “Croft Farm is between Tewkesbury and Bredon, it’s a great venue.
“The 20K bike ride goes out as far as Beckford before the competitors head back for the 5K run.”
Some 125 athletes have entered this year’s event and Taylor reckons the winner will cross the finish line in around one hour, 10 minutes.
“This is the highlight of our year,” continued Taylor. “We run an aquathlon series in late winter and early spring but this is our main event.
“We want people to race hard but to have fun doing it. Nobody has a barrier to doing their first triathlon with us.”
And if anyone is taking part in their first triathlon, Taylor hopes they will come back for more.
The club currently have some 90 members and he added: “We want to boost our membership from all walks of life.”
The swimming discipline gets under way at 9am.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
