Tri Team Glos Young Triathletes looking forward to their big date in May

It may be the best part of four months away but the junior section of Tri Team Glos is already busy planning one of the highlights of their year.
The Tri Team Glos Young Triathletes children’s triathlon takes place this year on Sunday 19th May at Tewkesbury School and already the countdown has begun.
The event is now well established on the Gloucestershire sporting calendar, attracting as it does some 175 competitors from all over the county and beyond.
“The event is open to anyone and we are already accepting entries,” said race coordinator Gill James, whose children Daisy, 11, and Jack, eight, will be competing on the day.
There are five age group races from seven and eight year olds all the way up to 16 year olds.
“This is the 15th year we’ve been running the event, and the second time we’ve run it at Tewkesbury School,” said Gill, whose husband Nik is chairman of Tri Team Glos Young Triathletes. “It’s a really good venue, the running and cycling take place on the grass within the grounds of the school and the swimming takes place at the school pool.
“Everything is run like a normal adult race.”
Registration is at 10.30am, the first race is at 12.30pm and the presentations are at 4.30pm.
Tri Team Glos Young Triathletes are affiliated to Tri Team Glos, which is for adults, although each section is run separately with their own committee.
The junior section has some 40 members. They hold swim training sessions at Beaufort School in Tuffley on Mondays and Thursdays and their cycle/run training sessions at Imjin Barracks in Churchdown on Sunday mornings.
