Felicity Thomas made it six of the best when she completed a win double at the British Seniors Closed Grass Court Championships.

Competing in the over-75s age group at the Surbiton Racket and Fitness Club, the East Gloucestershire Club member claimed both the singles and doubles titles.

She defeated Jackie Boothman (Dorset) 6-1, 6-3 in the singles final and teamed up with Ruth Weston (Surrey) to win the doubles final, also 6-1, 6-3.

Felicity was especially delighted as it completed the set for her this year, as she has now won all three British singles and doubles titles in 2017 – indoors, clay and grass.

The event at Surbiton was a Grade 2 tournament, although rain meant that very few matches were played on grass.

In the singles final both players had to contend with very windy conditions, combined with dappling on the artificial clay court due to overhanging trees.

Felicity has played Boothman 14 times in ITF events since 2003. She has won the last three, but her south coast opponent had the upper hand in most of their earlier matches.

Next year will be very challenging for Felicity as high quality players join the age group in January. Before that, however, she goes to Orlando in October to represent Great Britain in the World Team Championships, where she will play at No. 1 for her country.

Meanwhile, East Glos Club member Henry Marshall reached the men's 70+ singles quarter-finals in the British Seniors Closed Grass Court Championships where he came up against former UK number one Mark Cox, with Cox winning 6-2, 6-2.

Henry also reached the 70+ men’s doubles semi-finals with partner Peter Friedmann, losing to Cox and Richard Tutt 6-1, 6-1.

Henry says the big highlight was playing the doubles semi-final at Wimbledon due to the rain at Surbiton.
