Tennis day at East Glos raises £2,000 for good cause

Thirty-two members from East Gloucestershire Club enjoyed a fantastic morning’s tennis followed by lunch and a raffle in memory of much-loved club member Gill Green, who died last November aged 56.

A sum of £2,000 was raised for the Focus Research Centre at the Oncology Unit at Cheltenham General Hospital.

The inspiration for the event came from Alison Savage, Gill’s tennis partner of 10 years. Alison shared Gill’s ups and downs over the period of 14 years from the diagnosis of primary breast cancer to terminal cancer.

Alison said, “Gill’s positivity and constant smile touched all those who knew her and I always knew that I wanted to give something back to someone who had given so much.

“A huge thanks to all those who helped make this tournament a success and to everyone who came along and supported the event.”

Gill’s daughter Sophie, who hadn’t played for a long time, joined in with gusto and hit her forehands most memorably like her mother. The raffle was drawn by Sophie and her brother Ed.
