How Cirencester Swimming Club trio make a big splash at the English Nationals
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 30th August 2019, 09:00
Cirencester Swimming Club are still on the crest of a wave after three of their swimmers made it through to the English Nationals in Sheffield in the summer.
Alex Cohoon, Kirsten Powell and Lucinda Norris all made it through to Ponds Forge with 16-year-old Cohoon proving a real star turn as he won a gold and silver medal.
“To get there alone is a mammoth achievement for Cirencester swimmers who have considerably less training time compared to that of their competitors,” said a club spokesman.
The start of the week saw Cohoon go sub 24 seconds for the 50 metres freestyle claiming the 17+ years gold medal with a personal best time of 23.86. He also picked up a silver medal for the 50m fly, clocking a time of 25.94.
Powell, at her first home nationals, competed in the 50m back and qualified from heats for the final for the 14-year-old age category. She finished with a personal best time of 31.78 to claim seventh place.
Norris was also competing at her first home nationals, taking part in the 50m breaststroke for the 12-year-old age category.
And although her time of 36.83 didn’t see her through to the final, she has plenty to look back on with pride and the experience will certainly stand her in very good stead for the future.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
