East Glos squash members will be playing padel in France in April

A group of squash players from East Glos will be saying “au revoir” to the winter season some time in April and heading off to the south of France.

A squad of 20 players will head off to Toulouse on the weekend of the 20th-22nd April to play padel tennis and squash competitions against local teams at the Toulouse Padel and Squash Club.

And if you don’t know what padel is, that’s not surprising as half of the participants had no idea what it was before signing up. East Glos squash committee member Ben Heuzé said: “It’s an outdoor sport which is a mix of tennis and squash and is a lot of fun.

“Padel is the fastest growing racket sport in Europe and is played on a small tennis court surrounded by four glass walls. You play with a tennis ball and wooden bats only in the doubles format.”

And it won’t just be padel that they’ll be playing in Toulouse.

“On the squash front, it will be another cracking France v England encounter as the top south of France squash players will face the best of East Glos,” said Heuzé.

“The aim of the weekend is to discover a new sport, play competitive padel and squash, but above all, it is to spend a great time together to celebrate the end of the winter squash season.”
