Western Tempo runner Dom James is the king of the Cheltenham Half Marathon again
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Monday, 22nd September 2025, 11:00
Dom James made it a super six with another standout performance in this year’s Cheltenham Half Marathon.
The 29-year-old Western Tempo runner had won the event for the previous five years and he was in superlative form again yesterday as he completed the 13.1 miles in one hour, eight minutes, 35.2 seconds.
That was 30 seconds quicker than second-placed Jack Ramm, with the Dulwich runner finishing in 1.09.05.5.
Ramm finished just ahead of James’ Western Tempo team-mate Marcus England, who completed in 1.09.06.8.
James’ time this year was some 43 seconds quicker than in 2024 and his good friend Dylan Gillett, who also runs for Western Tempo, said: “He’s incredibly quick, he’s in the form of his life.”
And 25-year-old Gillett, who was cheering James on from the sidelines yesterday, believes he could continue to dominate the race for years to come.
“I think he can win it for another five years, maybe 10,” he said. “As a distance runner you don’t really start to decline until you’re in your 40s, we’ve got runners at the club in their 40s who are still producing very good times.
“Dom is doing really well. He’s got speed and endurance, it’s deadly. People come to try to take him on but it’s his race.”
It certainly was yesterday with James going clear over the final two or three miles to seal victory.
“That's when he put the hammer down, he looked comfortable throughout,” Gillett added.
Gillett, meanwhile, is running the Bourton Half Marathon on Sunday before defending his Stroud Half Marathon crown on Sunday 26th October.Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
