The Tewkesbury Half Marathon is set to become a regular feature on the town’s sporting calendar again.
That’s the hope after yesterday’s race, the first time a half marathon had been run in the town for a number of years.
A 10K was also run alongside the half marathon and Dave Wild, the owner of race organisers Future Sports Events, said: “It was a really good day. We want to come back next year, that’s the plan.
“The feedback has been really good, we’re hoping to build on yesterday and take it forward.”
Yesterday’s half marathon was won by Bromsgrove & Redditch AC’s James Marshall in one hour, 12 minutes, 33 seconds – CLC Striders’ Rob Barnett was third in 1.13.08 – while Scott Taylor was the winner of the 10K in 36.22.
Some 1,300 runners took part in the two races and Wild said: “I think we can cope with 2,500 across both races.”
A gusting wind made life a little more difficult for those taking part, but Wild continued: “Everybody has said it was an enjoyable event and we love the town.
“The first one is always the biggest challenge but we’ve had great support from everybody – the local clubs, the council, the police and our sponsors Ontic and PentenAmio.”
Sue Williams, of Tewkesbury Allrunners, agreed.
She was manning the water station at Mile 11 and said: “Everybody I spoke to loved it. It was great to have the event back. It’s good for the town and good for the community.”Other Images
