Organisers delighted with 2,000-plus entries for Stroud Half Marathon and 10K
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Saturday, 25th October 2025, 09:00
More than 2,000 runners have signed up for this year’s Stroud Half Marathon and 10K.
Both races take place tomorrow with the half-marathon getting under way at 9am from Cainscross Road, adjacent to Marling School field, and the 10K starting 20 minutes later in Grove Lane in Whitminster.
It is the first time in the 40-plus years of the Stroud Half that the organisers have run a 10K alongside the 13.1-mile main event and it is expected that the leading runners in both races will be finishing in Cainscross Road at about the same time.
“We’re delighted with the number of entries,” said Stroud Athletic Club vice-chairman Jim Adams.
And it’s easy to see why, with Catherine Rands of Race Nation Events, the race organisers, adding: “There’s a cap of 300 runners on the 10K, all the places have been taken and there’s a massive waiting list.
“There are about 1,800 entries for the half-marathon but the entries are still coming in thick and fast, we expect about 2,000 on the day.”
The Stroud Half has long been the flagship event for Stroud AC – it was run for the first time in 1982 – and club members would love to see one of their runners cross the line in first place tomorrow.
Three-times winner Lee Stopford, the new men's team captain at Stroud AC, has entered the race this year after missing out in 2024 to take part in the Frankfurt Marathon. He won the race for three successive years from 2021.
Last year’s race was won by Western Tempo runner Dylan Gillett in 68 minutes, 11.5 seconds.
He is defending his title and Adams said: “It should be a great race, we want the event to keep getting bigger and better.”Copyright © 2025 The Local Answer Limited.
