Cirencester Athletics Club member Leigh Guilbert raises more than £3,000 for Alzheimer’s Research after New York Marathon run

Cirencester Athletics Club member Leigh Guilbert has just completed the final leg of a three-part personal challenge – and some challenge it was too.

That’s because he has just run the New York Marathon – he finished in five hours, 14 minutes – and that comes on the back of two other major events, namely the 100-mile Cotswold Sportive and the Welsh Ironman at Tenby.

Guilbert took on the challenge to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research and Cirencester AC publicity officer Liza Darroch said he “can rest up knowing he has achieved his challenge and in the process is close to raising his target of £3,250 for Alzheimer’s Research.”

The New York marathon was won by Kenya’s Geoffrey Kamworor in a time of two hours, eight minutes, 13 seconds.

Guilbert, meanwhile, went well for the first 10 miles but then had to dig deep to get the job done and, added Darroch, “was pleased to get over the finishing line”.
