Forest of Dean Athletic Club runner Donna Lloyd is ready for half marathon challenge
Author: Roger Jackson, Posted: Friday, 16th March 2018, 15:10
Donna Lloyd is primed and ready to run the Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon on Sunday, which is due to start at 10am.
The 35-year-old will be taking on the 13-mile challenge less than three months after becoming a mum for the first time – she gave birth to Imogen on 21st December.
And the only concern Donna has got about Sunday is the weather.
“I just hope the race is on because there’s snow forecast on Saturday night,” she said. And Forest Half race director Chris Hammersley confirmed that the organisers are monitoring the weather although they remain optimistic.
"At this stage we're hopeful the race will go ahead," he told The Local Answer today.
Donna warmed up for the Forest Half by taking part in the Berkeley 20K last weekend and although she completed the course, it was anything but straightforward.
“Parts of the route were flooded,” she said. “There were sections where we were knee deep in water.”
Donna, who has recently joined the Forest of Dean Athletic Club, ran in Berkeley with her friend Amy Wilden.
“We took it really slowly,” said Donna. “We came 15th and 16th in the female veteran 35 category but we used it just as a training run.”
After the Forest Half, Donna will turn her attention to the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April.
“Next weekend I’m going for a 22-mile training run,” she said. “That will be four weeks before the marathon and after that I’ll cut it down.”
And when she runs in London she shouldn’t be too difficult to spot.
“I’m going as a mermaid,” she laughed. “I’m going to be wearing fancy joggers and a top with lots of glitter. The route is always lined with lots of children and if you’re in fancy dress they go crazy for it.”
This will be the third time Donna has run the London Marathon and on one of the occasions she dressed up as Cheetara from the animated series ThunderCats.
Meanwhile, Donna’s friend Amy is taking part in the Malvern Half Marathon on Saturday 28th April. “It’s all uphill,” laughed Donna, “she must be crazy!”Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
