Amy Gomer has raised more than £1,500 for charity after running five half marathons in five weeks.

She completed the final leg of her October challenge on Sunday when she took part in the River Thames Half, running the event with her sister Jessie.

It was an incredible effort by the 25-year-old Stroud and District Athletics Club runner, who had hoped to raise £1,000 for charity.

"The page is currently on £1,460 and I have £250 in cash to add from the cake sale so the fundraising is going really well," said Amy. "I may now do another cake sale to try and get to £2,000."

And although she is now enjoying a well-earned rest from running, she still had enough energy to enjoy one final hurrah on Sunday evening.

“We organised a surprise party for her at the Curio Lounge in Stroud when she came home,” said Amy's mum Tina. “There were about 30 family and friends there.

“It was a massive surprise celebration. It was very much overwhelming and very tearful.

“We’re all so super proud of what she’s achieved.”

Amy’s challenge began in Cardiff on Sunday 1st October and she took part in the London Lee Valley Race For Life, Manchester Half and Stroud Half before Sunday’s finale.

Her mum is hoping that Amy’s next challenge is a little less exacting before adding: “She’s running the London Marathon next year so she’s got to focus on that.”

The five charities to benefit from Amy’s challenge were: Target Ovarian Cancer; Tehya’s Wheelchair Fund; Alzheimer’s Society; Mind, the mental health charity and Verity PCOS: Supporting the very little research and help towards Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
