Great Britain Paralympic hero Andy Lewis will start this year’s Forest of Dean Autumn Half Marathon.

The 2016 paratriathlon gold medal winner in Rio will get the runners under way at 10am on Sunday 24th September from Speech House.

Lewis, who lives in Lydney, will also start the 5K race which runs alongside the half marathon.

Race director John Matthews said: “He started the Spring half marathon in March and we hope he may run in the 5K although we don’t know yet.

“It’s great that he’s doing so much to support the event.”

Close to 800 entries have already been received for this year’s half – organisers are hoping that around 1,000 will be lining up for the start in around three weeks’ time – while the 5K has attracted around 70 runners, a number race officials are hoping will double.

“We do allow late entries in the run-up to the big day,” said Matthews, “although it does cost more if you leave it late.”
