Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club are flying high on all fronts this season.
The men’s flagship team have made a barnstorming start in Southern Counties North, winning five of their opening six league games, and the United have been in similarly impressive form in Berks/Bucks & Oxon 3 North.
“The senior squad is thriving and we now have two competitive sides, they are both second in their respective leagues,” said club secretary Wayne Loxton. “The 1st team are in their highest place in the league since 2003.
“The 2nd team are pushing for promotion and our primary goal is get them into a more competitive league.”
So what’s brought about the upturn in fortunes?
“The reason for the resurgence is based upon a collective effort from the committee, coaches and players, and the players are having fun,” added Loxton.
“We have created a player pathway where under-15s, under-16s and Colts train alongside – not with – the seniors and on a Thursday night we fill three pitches with 80-plus players training.”
And it’s not just the senior section at the club that is thriving because the mini and youth section also boasts close to 300 members.
These are certainly exciting times at Stow RFC.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
