Marvellous Matson chasing another cup final
Gloucester > Sport > Rugby Union

Club of the moment Matson are sure to take a big following to Gordon League tomorrow evening when their 2nd team bid for a place in the final of this year’s North Gloucestershire Combination Junior Cup.
The club’s flagship team are currently the talk of the city – and beyond – after their remarkable 19-18 win at Old Colfeians in the RFU Intermediate Cup semi-final on Saturday.
They came back from 18-0 down at half-time and will face Kenilworth in the final at Twickenham on Sunday 5th May.
Kenilworth, who won the Midlands Two West (South) title after winning 21 of their 22 games, defeated South Shields Westoe 39-34 to book their place at the home of English rugby.
Matson 2nds, meanwhile, earned their place in the last four of the Junior Cup with a 78-10 win at Longlevens while Gordon League overcame Old Cryptians 29-17.
It has been a tough few days for Old Cryptians because their dreams of a place at Twickenham next month were dashed when their flagship team went down 17-5 at home to Reeds Weybridge in the semi-final of the RFU Junior Vase on Saturday.
It has, nevertheless, been an outstanding season for the club who only missed out on promotion to Gloucestershire Premier on the final day of the season.
The other Junior Cup semi-final sees Old Centralians host Coney Hill.
The final of the Glanville Cup will be between Matson and Old Centralians, who will also meet in the Senior Cup final and could meet in the Junior Cup final.
Old Centralians reached the final of the competition for 3rd XVs with a 27-15 win over Old Cryptians while Matson were given a walkover by Chosen Hill who were unable to raise a side.
Chosen Hill’s flagship team, meanwhile, will be playing in Gloucestershire Premier next season after they lost their final Western Counties North game of the season 51-14 at Stroud on Saturday.
All three North Gloucestershire Combination cup finals will take place at Kingsholm on Saturday 11th May.
Junior Cup second round results: Old Centralians 68 Hucclecote 5; Longlevens 10 Matson 78; Gordon League 29 Old Cryptians 17; Chosen Hill 8 Coney Hill 36.
Tomorrow’s Junior Cup semi-finals: Gordon League v Matson; Old Centralians v Coney Hill (6pm kick-offs).Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
