John Hennessy to lead Matson charge in 2019/20 season

John Hennessy will captain Matson again in the 2019/20 season.
It will be the 13th consecutive season that the big second row has led the Western Counties North club and he added with a laugh: “This will be my last!”
It’s a remarkable achievement and has come at a time when the club have enjoyed great success both in league and knockout rugby.
And Hennessy, who has no plans to hang up his boots any time soon, remains fiercely ambitious.
“We want to win promotion this season, that’s the aim,” he said. “I definitely think we’ve got the players to do it.”
The club finished third in Western Counties North last season, a campaign that will always be remembered for their supercharged journey to the RFU Intermediate Cup final at Twickenham.
They were narrowly beaten by Kenilworth that day and Hennessy would love to go back to the home of English rugby and go one better in 2019/20.
Throw in the end-of-season North Gloucestershire Combination cup competitions – Matson are always a major player in each of the three competitions – and it’s clearly going to be another very exciting season for Hennessy and the club that mean so much to him.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
