Action from last season’s Senior Cup final in which Cheltenham beat Cheltenham North. Picture, www.bfdrones.orgTwo of the Cheltenham and District Rugby Combination’s big beasts lock horns in an eagerly awaited clash at Everest Road tonight.
Old Patesians 2nds take on Cheltenham North with the prize a place in the Senior Cup final at Newlands on Saturday 27th April.
There will be a minute’s silence before the game in memory of Geoff Penhale, who made his name at Cheltenham North, who died on Saturday.
Old Pats 2nds booked their place in the last four with a thrilling 14-12 win at Smiths while the North will be playing their first game in this season’s competition.
In the other semi-final Cheltenham Saracens host Cheltenham in another game that is generating plenty of interest.
The Junior Cup takes centre stage on Wednesday and again there are some fascinating games with Cheltenham Civil Service – 38-13 winners over Cheltenham North 2nds in the previous round – travelling to Cheltenham Saracens 2nds in the last four while Norton – 42-25 winners over Pats 3rds – entertain Cheltenham 2nds.
The Minor Shield semi-finals take place on Thursday with Smiths 2nds entertaining Cheltenham 3rds and Tewkesbury 2nds due to host Old Pats 4th.
Old Pats 4th marched into the last four with a 107-5 win at Cheltenham Civil Service 2nds.
Their team included veterans Rob Fidler, Dave Parry, Pete Mitchell and Bruce Fenley – the rest of the side was made up of their up-and-coming players – and the combined age of their ‘fab four’ was more than the other 11 starting players put together.
The finals of the Junior Cup and Minor Shield will take place at Newlands on Saturday 27th April before the showpiece Senior Cup final with host club Cheltenham the only club with teams still in all three competitions.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
