Hat-trick hero Omar Ly is the star turn for Cheltenham Tigers in thrilling Cheltenham Combination Senior Cup final win

Omar Ly was the last-gasp Cheltenham Tigers hero as they clinched the Cheltenham Combination Senior Cup in thrilling style.
They overcame Smiths 31-28 at the Prince of Wales Stadium, with 18-year-old Ly scoring with the last play of the game.
It was Ly’s third try of the match and the free-scoring wing has certainly made a big impression since joining Cheltenham from Tewkesbury.
“He’s a very quick lad,” said Cheltenham chairman Steve Ratcliffe. “This is his first season with us and we’re delighted to have him, he’s scored quite a few tries for us.”
Cheltenham play two divisions above Smiths in Regional 2 Midlands West but they had to work very hard for their victory against the Counties 2 Gloucestershire North side.
“Smiths are a very good team and they’ve finished the season strongly,” said Ratcliffe. “Marcus Raymond was exceptional for them, he kicked everything, he looked a very good player.”
It was Cheltenham’s final game of the season and Ratcliffe added: “For the neutral I would say it was a very good game, it was a nice way to end the season.”
Smiths, who won the cup the previous year for the first time in their history, have one more game to play this season, because they head to Dings Crusaders on Saturday to take on Harrow in the Papa John’s Community Cup Counties 2 South Plate final.
Smiths booked their place in the final with a 15-14 win at Bristol Saracens on Thursday evening.
