Gordon League celebrate Papa John's Cup win over Ashford at Dings Crusaders

Gordon League are the cup kings after a thrilling see-saw game against Ashford at Dings Crusaders yesterday.
A couple of tries in the final 10 minutes clinched a 44-33 victory and with it the Papa John’s Cup Counties 1 South Shield.
“It was a great day for the club, brilliant,” said Gordon League secretary and former player Alan McMahon. “It was a great way to end the season.”
It certainly was, and their victory follows their title success of 12 months ago when they won Counties 2 Gloucestershire North.
This season has been tougher in Counties 1 Western North – they finished ninth in the 12-strong division – and they’ve certainly had to work hard to win the Counties 1 South Shield.
All three games on the way to the final have been very close affairs – they won 45-42 at Melksham, 22-19 at home to High Wycombe and then 26-23 at St Ives to book their place in the final.
“We’ve had a tough season but we were fairly confident,” continued McMahon. “We knew we had a chance against Ashford, all the teams are at the same level.
“It’s great for the players and everyone at the club, it’s made all the hard work worthwhile.”
Ashford finished 10th of 12 in Counties 1 Kent.
Other result, Papa John's Cup Regional 2 South Plate final: Drybrook 36, Sutton & Epsom 27.
