Cheltenham Tigers Women celebrate their success at Twickenham last year. Picture: Leo Wilkinson PhotographyCheltenham Tigers Women are looking forward to another big day out at Twickenham this weekend.
They will be returning to the home of English rugby to take on Thurrock Ladies in the Championship play-off final, and they’ll certainly know their way around one of the world's great sporting arenas because it’s only 12 months since they were last there.
“We beat Leicester Tigers Women last year, that was a very special day,” said club chairman Steve Ratcliffe.
Indeed it was. Cheltenham won in convincing style, overcoming Leicester 27-17 in the Championship play-off final and their supporters will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday.
Cheltenham have enjoyed another hugely successful season, finishing top of Women’s Championship North 1 after winning 15 of their 16 league games. They finished 20 points clear of their nearest rivals.
Thurrock, meanwhile, won 16 of their 18 league games as they won Women’s Championship South 1.
The women’s section at Cheltenham Tigers is certainly thriving because their 2nds made it a Twickenham double last season when they defeated Hackney Ladies 36-22 in the final of the Intermediate Cup.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
