Rugby season is over for all clubs below Premiership

Keith Gee, president of the Gloucestershire RFU, has welcomed the RFU’s statement today that the 2019/20 rugby season for all levels below the Premiership has ended following the coronavirus pandemic.
“It’s a very clear cut statement,” Gee told The Local Answer. “We must remember that 99 per cent of rugby is community based.
“It makes it very clear for all clubs, schools and community organisations.”
And while the statement does provide a lot of answers – the end-of-season county championship will not take place – it does still leave a lot of questions about the league programme and possible promotions and relegations.
“The RFU have set up a special group of people to look at, and decide on, all promotions and relegations,” said Gee.
Also, it shouldn’t be forgotten that Chosen Hill and Old Cryptians were eyeing big days out at Twickenham after reaching the semi-finals of the RFU Senior Vase and RFU Junior Vase respectively.
“All cup games are part of the action being taken,” added Gee.
The North Gloucestershire Combination and Cheltenham Combination had already cancelled their end-of-season cup competitions in light of the current crisis.Copyright © 2024 The Local Answer Limited.
